New Kitchen Shades

I got all productive this weekend and made new shades for the kitchen and bathroom.

(Look at the top of the photo – please ignore the boxes, as we were moving in that day).

Kitchen Shades Before

(Note how nice these look with our Fiestaware! The walls are still the same color as the before photo, but I had a hard time photographing the room well).

These were actually quite easy to make.  First, I removed the old shades from the windows.  I carefully took the fabric off the wood, which was screwed into the top of the window frame.  Then I ripped the seams on all the shades, so that I could reuse the backing.  I laid the backing onto the fabric, right sides together, cut out the new fabric, pinned them together, and sewed them together on three sides.  Next, I turned them right-side out, ironed them flat, and nailed them back onto the wood pieces.  Finally, I threaded the cording back through the loops on the backing and on the wood, and screwed the shades back into the windows.
